ABOUT US
Jacaranda Health is creating East Africa’s first maternal health service delivery organization providing world-class quality at rates affordable for all women. Our model provides comprehensive maternity care at a fifth of the cost of other private hospitals. We provide respectful patient centered obstetric care, safe delivery, family planning, and postnatal care. Since opening our first maternity center in 2012, we have provided high-quality maternal health care to over 30,000 women and delivered more than 3,000 babies at our maternity hospital.
Our vision is big. From our roots in Kahawa West, we aim to become the biggest chain of maternity hospitals in Kenya. But also an innovation laboratory, adapting and integrating the best clinical protocols, technologies, health information systems, and business approaches that help improve quality of maternity care for all Kenyan mothers. Our innovations have resulted in 60% fewer maternal complications than nearby public hospitals in Kenya, 90% exclusive breastfeeding rates, and postpartum family planning rates that are 4x higher than the national average. We are constantly learning and innovating, and as we grow we are building networks to share lessons and tools with public sector hospitals and others in the health community.

Chief Excecutive Officer
2019, like 2018, has come and gone in a flash - Yet in this flash it is incredible to see how far we have progressed, both as a hospital as well as a business.
We have managed to ensure that the quality of care provided to thousands of expecting mothers remains intact and true to our mission, having once again received multiple accolades and nominations for the work that we have done. At the same time, we have almost proven that we can do what we do whilst ensuring that the business achieves profitability at a unit level. It is only through achieving this necessary stage of profitability that we can show the world that we are capable of scaling, replicating and thereby achieving greater impact than what one maternity hospital could do on its own.
We have a lot to be proud of, and also a lot to be excited about, as we set ourselves the task of building a new hospital, as well as continuing to see that our maternity in Kahawa West functions smoothly and continues to serve more patients. 2020 has a lot on offer, and to those who seize the initiative and work hard to get us further as an organization will see even better offerings coming their way in the future.
Embarking on 2020, we have heard and understood that the culture of Jacaranda Maternity needs to evolve as it grows - we heard you at the away day and we will be releasing our new values for everyone to know and adhere to. These values will be used to guide you through every day at Jacaranda Maternity - please let's use them to sing the same song to all our stakeholders.
As we go into the Christmas period, I'd just like to wish you all a safe and enjoyable time with your loved ones. For those who are travelling, please travel safe and return safe too. For those who are working at the hospital, our clients still need care and mothers still need assistance, so please ensure that they get provided with the same level of excellence we have shown them throughout the year.
I look forward to engaging with you all next year.
Happy holidays.
Sawan

Hospital Manager
As we are heading towards the end of 2019, it’s good to look ahead and think about what the new year may unveil.
But first, let’s take a quick look back. 2019 was quite a year for all of us at Jacaranda health. It was my fifth year as your hospital manager and it was one of the most interesting years of my life. I have learnt tremendously and we have been through many developments. I have seen most of you grow and become better at what you do and strive for a better tomorrow.
I would like to start with a huge thank you to all of you – Thank you for all your wonderful contributions towards the growth and success of our company. We strive to put our clients at the heart of everything we do and this has been seen and experienced throughout the year. The next person might not know what you do but if you were not here we could not have achieved all we have achieved. ASANTE SANA!
Of course, there is always a lot of work ahead and I do have a wish list for Santa Claus, which I would like to share with you:
I wish for a team that continues to embrace change. With digitalization changing our work, this is so important. The Dalai Lama once said, “The greatest gift you can give a child is to prepare him for great change”. The road of transforming a company can be rocky, but I am confident that our team will be ready to embrace all the upcoming challenges and to adapt quickly.
All our staff love what they are doing and our clients can feel that in every interaction. This has been the year we have received very little negative feedback about our service to the clients. I wish that we continue to be challenged and fulfilled colleagues striving for customer service at its best.
As we look into 2020 new things are ahead new hospital and with this new growth as an organization and for you as well. I can only hope that in the coming year we as a team can meet the objectives that we have set.
I wish you and your families a joyous, peaceful and restful festive season and all the best for the New Year 2020.
Let's remember the reason for the season!!
Kate.

UPDATES

Gynae Clinics
We introduced Gyn Clinic on Saturdays. This was due to the increased demand on the Gynae clinic after hours. The clinic is building up thus far.
Nutrition Clinic
Due to the high number of clientele, we extended the nutrition services running from Monday to Friday, 8am – 5pm dedicated to provide nutritional services for our pregnant mothers and children and also to provide the highest quality patient-focused nutrition care, to advance the practice of clinical nutrition, and to educate future dietitians and other healthcare providers.

Laboratory Services
We introduced the new self test HIV kits. These HIV self-test kits rely on a simple pin prick of blood, are easy to use, and can give you results in 15 minutes. The tests approved by the WHO are considered to be 99% accurate. Kudos to the Lab Team!
New Hires
We are pleased to have welcomed a couple of employees/ locumers to the JH family. We are happy to see the JH family expanding and growing!

Performance Appraisals
Performance reviews have been conducted for each employee and this will be done twice a year moving forward. We thank management and staff for the cooperation on this. This will allow to identify areas for improvement and grow as an organization.
Introduction of Online Locum System
This was implemented to have a proper system of submission of locums and also as a way to keep track of locums done. This has proved to be very efficient and effective.

Safecare Certification
We had the reassessment of SafeCare certification held in June. We would like to take this opportunity to thank each and everyone of you for your patience and cooperation during the safecare inspection. The inspectors passed their sincere gratitude for a successful inspection. Unfortunately, we dropped to level 4, but other than that, we will continue to provide the best quality care to our clients. Let us work towards improving our performance against the SafeCare standards and progress to our initial level of standard, level 5.
Introduction of NHIF
We are pleased to have NHIF on board. It has proved to have increased the number of clientele.

Marketing
Kudos to the marketing team for coming up with innovative and creative strategies to market our hospital by branding e.g. Reflectors among other things.
Insurance Companies
We have also partnered with additional insurance companies to improve health access for our clients.

TRAININGS
We have managed to attend the following trainings; Fire training, Basic Life Support and Lipoarabinomannan training. As you all know it’s a statutory requirement that personnel working in institutions be trained in fire safety yearly. Also, in BLS training there was a lot of laughter and a lot of learning that occurred...... some patients died, others made it, some are in ICU. The Lipoarabinomannan is a new test. This is a test for Tuberculosis using urine. Kiambu County was selected as one of a few counties to start LAM implementation and Jacaranda was one of the first few to receive the training. Thanks to our good relationship with public health sector and exemplary performance.
Continuous Medical Education (CME's) – This has been done religiously. Let us continue with our tradition of learning and keeping upto date
